Removing Vinyl: Day 1 0 comments

Aug 27, 2012 |
Actually it’s day 2, but when you’re just embarking on an exterior renovation, who’s counting? We {Dad & I} only worked a few hours, and didn’t feel like we got much done. We did get most of the main floor window wraps off, with the exception of the wraps on the bay window. As soon as it cools down I’m going to go tackle that. So far most of the window sills are in good shape with exception of the one on the northeast corner, which will have to be completely rebuilt.

It’s pretty dirty under all that vinyl. Lots of bugs. And dirt. And dust. We were coughing and sputtering pretty loudly as the vinyl was coming down. We had to take 10 and run to get some food. When we came back there were two dust masks hanging on the front doorknob for us. Thank you dust mask fairy! {Now all we need to do is sit and wait for the bucket truck fairy!}

Did uncover this: Right next to an old window frame we found some numbers and the spot where something electric used to be. I can’t for the life of me figure out why the numbers were there. Electric company numbers? Phone company? They couldn’t possibly be the house numbers, because they’re nowhere near the front door. In fact, they’re on the side of the house that’s not even the street side. Maybe with a little digging I can find out some more info. I did also find out where the original porch railing used to be. I have always wondered at what height it stood. Can’t tell much more than that, but it’s a start.
